The study explored the potential of brass music to bridge divides and foster understanding between different faiths. The data suggests that brass music can resonate with people from diverse backgrounds due to its ability to evoke powerful emotions and create a sense of shared experience. The survey and interviews highlighted how melodies, rhythms, and collaborative performances transcend religious boundaries. Uplifting brass arrangements in Hindu wedding processions, for instance, create a sense of joy, while mournful shofar calls in Jewish ceremonies evoke collective reflection. Familiar brass band traditions associated with specific religious ceremonies can also create a sense of shared history and cultural understanding. Both interviews and focus groups emphasized the power of collaborative music-making in breaking down barriers and building bridges. Participating in multi-faith brass bands allows people from diverse faiths to work towards a common goal – creating beautiful music together. Exposure to brass music from other faiths cultivates respect for their unique musical traditions and religious practices. People gain appreciation for the historical context, cultural significance, and symbolism associated with specific instruments and their use in ceremonies. Brass music can also serve as a gateway to exploring the broader musical landscape of different faiths.
