On August 5, former professional tennis player and four-time\u00a0Olympic\u00a0gold medal winner Serena Williams took to\u00a0Twitter\u00a0to claim\u00a0they had been ‘denied access’ to an ’empty’ rooftop restaurant at a hotel.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
She shared a photograph of a sign on the outside of the hotel, The Peninsula Paris, in\u00a0France.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Her tweet read: “Yikes @peninsulaparis I\u2019ve been denied access to rooftop to\u00a0eat\u00a0in a empty restaurant of nicer places but never with my kids. Always a first. #Olympic2024.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n
It didn’t take long for people to flood to the post to weigh in, with\u00a0social media\u00a0users divided over the incident.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
One said: “How does one get denied when they are Serena Wiliams…lol.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Another added: “Do better Peninsula.”<\/p>\n\n\n

However, a third argued: “Paris restaurants typically only book to capacity and they don\u2019t expect to turn tables multiple times each evening. So if a booking is made for 8pm, they will not seat someone at that table at seven. So at 7pm a restaurant may look empty at the moment, but every table is actually reserved. You can\u2019t take this as a personal slight.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n
While a fourth wrote: “You are aware the Olympic games are in town, so reservations everywhere are probably a good idea, right?”<\/p>\n\n\n\n
And the hotel has since responded.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
