Michael Jackson\u2019s daughter Paris has revealed why she identifies as a Black woman.\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

The 26-year-old model and musician is the middle child of the \u2018Thriller\u2019 singer \u2013 she has an older brother named Prince and a younger brother called Bigi. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

As the daughter of the \u2018King of Pop\u2019, Paris has been in the spotlight from a young age and over the years, she\u2019s experienced many public struggles. <\/p>\n\n\n

Paris has revealed that the paparazzi\u2019s fixation with her father led her to experience post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD). <\/p>\n\n\n\n

PTSD is a mental health condition that\u2019s triggered by a terrifying event \u2013 either through experiencing or witnessing it, as per the Mayo Clinic<\/a>. <\/p>\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n

On an episode of Red Table Talk<\/em>, Paris disclosed: \u201cI experience audio hallucinations, sometimes, with camera clicks and severe paranoia and have been going to therapy for a lot of things, but that included.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

She added that she has been doing eye movement desensitisation and reprocessing (EDMR) therapy to help with the PTSD, describing it as \u2018very effective\u2019. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Jackson\u2019s daughter has also been very open about her coming out experience, revealing that she doesn\u2019t label her sexuality. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cI wouldn\u2019t consider myself bisexual because I\u2019ve dated more than just men and women,\u201d she shared. <\/p>\n\n\n

While Paris has been open about her sexuality, she says it has been difficult to talk about with her \u2018religious\u2019 family \u2013 although her brothers have been supportive. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cMy family is very religious and a lot of, like homosexuality, is very taboo, so we don\u2019t talk about it, and it\u2019s not really accepted,\u201d she explained to Willow Smith on Red Table Talk<\/em>. <\/p>\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n

\u201cI\u2019ve gotten to a point where I respect them and I have love for them. I respect their beliefs. I respect their religion. I\u2019m at a point where to expect them to put aside their culture and their religion\u2026 expectations lead to resentment. What people think about me isn\u2019t my business.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n

Like her father, Paris also has a music career, dropping an album titled \u2018Wilted\u2019 back in 2020. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

She told L\u2019Officiel Italia<\/a>: \u201cMusic is like the air I breathe \u2013 it is awareness, it is being able to create something bigger than me and it is a way to express myself and externalise what I feel inside.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Jackson found fame as a part of The Jackson 5 \u2013 alongside his siblings \u2013 and became one of the biggest solo artists of all time. <\/p>\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n

Despite later in life having fair skin, the \u2018Billie Jean\u2019 singer was African-American and had a darker complexion when he first became famous. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

It has been reported that he suffered from vitiligo, a chronic condition characterised by the emergence of depigmented white patches on the skin, as per the NHS<\/a> \u2013 which is what caused Jackson\u2019s skin to go lighter as he got older. <\/p>\n\n\n

Prior to his death, Jackson had a rare conversation with talk show host Oprah Winfrey in which he acknowledged his skin condition, saying he was proud of his African-American heritage. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cI\u2019m a Black American. I am proud to be a Black American. I am proud of my race, and I am proud of who I am. I have a lot of pride and dignity in who I am,\u201d he declared. <\/p>\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n

\u201cThis is the situation, I have a skin disorder that destroys the pigmentation of the skin. It is something I cannot help, OK?<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cBut when people make up stories that I don\u2019t want to be who I am, it hurts me. It\u2019s a problem for me that I can\u2019t control.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n

With Jackson\u2019s African-American heritage in mind, Paris has now shared why she identifies as a Black woman. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201c[Michael] would look me in the eyes and he\u2019d point his finger at me and he\u2019d be like, \u2018You\u2019re Black. Be proud of your roots\u2019,\u201d she recalled to Rolling Stone<\/a>. <\/p>\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n

\u201cAnd I\u2019d be like, \u2018OK, he\u2019s my dad, why would he lie to me?\u2019. So I just believe what he told me. Cause\u2019, to my knowledge, he\u2019s never lied to me.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n

Addressing her lighter skin tone, Paris said many people presume she\u2019s white and is \u2018from Finland or something\u2019. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

She would point out that other mixed-race people look like her, including Prison Break <\/em>star Wentworth Miller, who was born to a Black father and white mother. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Following these comments, Paris has been subjected to a backlash \u2013 with talk show host Wendy Williams even describing her words as \u2018cute\u2019. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cI get that she considers herself Black and everything, but I\u2019m just talking about the visual because you know\u2026 Black is not what you call yourself, it\u2019s what the cops see when they got steel to your neck on the turnpike,\u201d she said. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
