Emilia Clarke has replaced\u00a0Amber Heard<\/a>\u00a0as Mera from\u00a0Aquaman<\/em>\u00a0in a stunning image.\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Heard starred as Mera in the DC franchise, debuting as the character in 2017\u2019s Justice League<\/em>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

She would then appear in the first Aquaman <\/em>film<\/a> alongside Jason Momoa and its sequel \u2013 Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

The first film, which came out in 2018, was a box office success and grossed a staggering $1.1 billion worldwide while receiving largely positive reviews.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Zombieland<\/em> star would describe her character as \u2019empowered\u2019 and \u2018proactive\u2019 in an interview with Elle<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The actress added: \u201cThat seems like a low bar to set\u2026 but let\u2019s face it, in the entertainment industry there\u2019s such a dearth of representation, I think it\u2019s worth saying.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n

In the DC Universe, a huge takeover has happened and a lot is changing \u2013 James Gunn, the director of the Guardians of the Galaxy <\/em>trilogy, and film producer Peter Safran are overseeing its future.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Addressing the DC fandom, Gunn has taken to X (formerly\u00a0Twitter<\/a>) and\u00a0said<\/a>: \u201cWe know we are not going to make every single person happy every step of the way, but we can promise everything we do is done in the service of the STORY and in the service of the DC CHARACTERS we know you cherish and we have cherished our whole lives.<\/p>\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n

\u201cAs for more answers about the future of the DCU, I will sadly have to ask you to wait. We are giving these characters and the stories the time and attention they deserve, and we ourselves still have a lot more questions to ask and answer.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n

The first major change was the removal of Henry Cavill as Superman, who is a fan favourite with many.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

He\u2019s been replaced<\/a> by American actor David Corenswet, who appeared in the horror film Pearl<\/em>. <\/p>\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n

Gunn and Safran have also revealed that they\u2019re envisioning a DC universe in which lesser-known characters are given a chance in the spotlight.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cOne of our strategies is to take our diamond characters \u2014 which is Batman, Superman, Wonder Woman \u2014 and we use them to prop up other characters that people don\u2019t know,\u201d Gunn told The Hollywood Reporter<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Safran added: \u201cTo build those lesser known properties into the diamond properties of tomorrow.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n

Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom<\/em> was shot before the reinvention of DC, so the film was still released \u2013 and Heard returned to her role as Mera.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

However, a lot of fans were not happy about this.<\/p>\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n

In 2022, Heard was embroiled in a highly publicised defamation trial against her ex-husband, Johnny Depp<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

It would result in the 37-year-old being cruelly trolled on social media.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

During the trial, the actress alleged that studio executives at Warner Bros. didn\u2019t want to \u2018include\u2019 her in the sequel due to her ongoing drama with her former spouse.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cI was given a script and then given new versions of the script that had taken away scenes that had action in it\u2026 and they basically took a bunch out of my role,\u201d Heard claimed, via Business Insider<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n

This accusation was dismissed by then-DC boss Walter Hamada, who said that her role being minimised had nothing to do with Depp.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

During his testimony, he said: \u201cI think editorially they were able to make that relationship work in the first movie.<\/p>\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n

\u201cBut there was a concern that it took a lot of effort to get there and that would we be better off finding someone with more natural chemistry with Jason Momoa and move forward that way.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

This isn\u2019t the only information that has surfaced regarding Heard\u2019s relationship with Momoa on the Aquaman<\/em> set.<\/p>\n\n\n

In 2023, Variety<\/a> reported that documents from Heard\u2019s therapist had been released.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

They alleged that Momoa would show up on set drunk, \u2018dressing like Johnny<\/a>\u2018 and that he tried to get her dropped from the movie.<\/p>\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n

However, this claim was rebuffed by a DC spokesperson, who said: \u201cJason Momoa conducted himself in a professional manner at all times on the set of Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom<\/em>.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Amid the reports and controversy surrounding the film, Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom <\/em>hit theatres in December 2023.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

While it received modest reviews, it only made $434 million at the box office \u2013 over $500 million less than the first movie grossed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Heard did return as Mera but only had a short amount of screen time<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n

Prior to the sequel\u2019s release, fans were rooting for someone else to star as Mera in the movie.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

A petition was launched to have Blake Lively replace Heard and it garnered over 17,000 signatures.<\/p>\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n

But the favourite for the role was actually someone who has a history with Momoa \u2013 and thanks to designer Diego de Sousa, people have gotten a good idea of how she\u2019d look in the role.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cI\u2019m here for it,\u201d comments one person.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Another adds: \u201cFor sure she is a better Mera than Amber Heard.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Fans suggested Emilia Clarke, who starred opposite Momoa in Game Of Thrones<\/em>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
