A Starbucks employee has gone\u00a0viral<\/a>\u00a0after breaking down in tears over being scheduled to work eight hours.\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Starbucks is the world\u2019s largest coffee chain and employs nearly 400,000 people.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Comparably<\/a>, which explores workplace cultures of large companies, says research suggests Starbucks employees are satisfied with their work-life balance and do not feel burnt out.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

However, one barista \u2013 who is also a full-time student \u2013 has posted an emotional video calling out management.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

They were apparently given a 25-hour work week, which included eight-hour shifts during the weekend.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The video has been shared by far-right Trump supporter Sebastian Gorka on X (formerly Twitter<\/a>), who mockingly tweeted: \u201cTrans Barrister has meltdown because 8 hours is too long to work on a day\u2026\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Gorka\u2019s cruel post \u2013 which is being trolled for its embarrassing typo \u2013 has led to many criticising the Starbucks employee.<\/p>\n\n\n

\u201cMy husband normally works 70 hours a week and was it hard, yes but he still did it,\u201d one person comments. \u201cThis kid needs to learn what hard work is otherwise they won\u2019t be able to make it.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Another adds in agreement: \u201cOh cry me a river. I drove a truck for 35 years. 12-14 hours a day. Sometimes gone for a month at a time.<\/p>\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n

\u201cSuck it up buttercup.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

However, many have taken to the comments and defended the barista, arguing that it would be difficult to do an eight-hour shift alongside educational studies.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

One writes: \u201cThey\u2019re allowed to be frustrated at Starbucks and their crappy manager not pulling their weight.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cPeople keep bringing up their eight-hour shifts but working a job on top of being a full-time student would be tiring. They\u2019re having a vent, so what?\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

A second points out: \u201cWow, you are so brave for bullying a young service worker.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In the viral video, the barista says that alongside the alleged treatment from management, it\u2019s left them at their \u2018wit\u2019s end\u2019 and that they\u2019re struggling to cope.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cI\u2019m a full-time student, I get scheduled for 25 hours a week. And then on weekends, they scheduled me the entire day, open to close, that one\u2019s scheduled for eight and half hours, both Saturday and Sunday,\u201d they explain. \u201cI\u2019m three and a half hours into my shift.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n

The barista adds: \u201cThere\u2019s so many customers and we have four people on the floor all day. Only five people were put on schedule and somebody had to call out.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

They go on to claim that the managers \u2018don\u2019t care about us\u2019 and \u2018don\u2019t want to help us\u2019, while also saying customers can be rude and misgender them.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cI don\u2019t get accommodation for being neurodivergent, people get mad at me for having too much sick time,\u201d they claim. \u201cI don\u2019t even know what to do anymore, I\u2019m at my wit\u2019s end with this job.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
